About Sclerotherapy

Spider veins, also called telangiectasia, may be caused by genetics, obesity, hormonal changes, certain medications, blood clots, and some medical conditions.

They are usually red, purple, or blue and may become easily visible through the skin as they grow in branching patterns on the face and legs.

Our talented team performs sclerotherapy to reduce or eliminate the appearance of spider veins on the face and body. A minimally invasive treatment with no required recovery period, sclerotherapy can help you get an even skin tone that you can show off in short shorts.

Schedule a consultation at Forever Slender MedSpa in Norton, MA and Wayland, MA to learn more about nonsurgical sclerotherapy as well as other cosmetic services.

Ideal Candidates

Sclerotherapy is best for patients who have small to medium blood vessels visible through the skin of their face and body. These spider veins are typically most prominent on the thighs and lower legs so patients may avoid wearing shorts, swimsuits, or other clothing that do not cover their spider veins.

Sclerotherapy patients should be in good general health before their treatment to avoid complications. Patients should not be pregnant or have a history of blood clots.

Procedure Technique

Sclerotherapy can be performed in one of our treatment rooms quickly and without anesthesia.

The spider veins being treated will be identified, and the skin will be sanitized with alcohol. A fine gauge needle will be inserted into the vein and the sclerosing solution will be applied. The needle will be removed and a bandage will be applied to the injection site to stop any minor bleeding.

This process will be repeated until all spider veins have been treated.

What to Expect

After sclerotherapy, you will be able to leave to resume all normal activities.

You may notice some redness, bruising, or swelling in the treated areas, but should subside naturally.

Compression garments are recommended to help blood circulation after your treatment for faster, better results. It may take some time for the sclerosing solution to work, but eventually the treated veins should shrink, turn white, and then fade or disappear.

You may need two or more treatments to achieve optimal results, but most patients are pleased with their improvements after one treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Sclerotherapy cost?

To determine the cost of your sclerotherapy treatment, we will assess your veins including how many you would like treated, where they are located, and how large they are.

Next, we will ask about your aesthetic goals and concerns in order to create a customized treatment plan to produce optimal results. After these discussions, we will be able to give you a cost estimate.

Forever Slender MedSpa offers several financing options, if needed.

What's the difference between Sclerotherapy and Laser Vein Treatments?

The sclerotherapy procedure involves the injection of a special solution into the vein, causing it to shrink and eventually disappear. Laser vein treatments are less invasive, using light energy to coagulate the vein, permitting it to be absorbed by the body.

Sclerotherapy is typically a better option for medium to larger blood spider veins and varicose veins, while laser vein treatments are ideal for small veins and those located on the face.

Can I get Sclerotherapy on my hands and face?

Yes. Sclerotherapy is safe for use on your hands and face. The injection can improve spider veins, vascular blemishes, broken blood vessels, and varicose veins.

During your consultation, a member of our team will assess your skin and determine whether you are an ideal candidate for sclerotherapy. If it is believed that you are not an ideal candidate, we will discuss alternative options with you.

How long should I wear compression stockings after sclerotherapy?

Compression garments are designed to help your blood circulate so that your vein remains closed, minimizing bruising. A member of our team will discuss the benefits of a compression garment and how long you should wear yours.

We recommend you wear the compression garment during recovery anytime you expect to be seated for long periods of time.
