How and Why the Sun Damages Skin
Most people have heard it’s important to use sunblock to protect our skin, but why do we need to use it? Consumer products companies have debated whether the greater issue is UVA or UVB radiation, but a recent study by Binghamton University shows the real issue isn’t which of the four categories of radiation is the worst for us.
The real issue is ultraviolet violet light of any type weakening the bonds between cells in the top layer of skin known as the stratum corneum. The weakened bonds affect proteins in corneodesmosomes which help the cells stick together. These weakened bonds are the reason why sunburn leads to skin peeling.
Do We Stop Vitamin D Production by Wearing Sunblock?

Yes, the sun provides us with life sustaining Vitamin D. The sun’s UVB rays enable our bodies to create Vitamin D from internal cholesterol. Don’t worry though, multiple studies have shown sunblock doesn’t prevent Vitamin D production.
