Treating Your Melasma
&srotate=0)
Summer is now over. You’ve spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the summer sun at the beach or by the pool and now you’ve noticed hyperpigmentation across your face. One type of hyperpigmentation is called melasma, which affects millions of Americans each year and is a particularly difficult form of hyperpigmentation to treat.
Who Gets Melasma
- Mostly women
- Those with darker skin tones
Melasma Causes
- Ultraviolet Radiation (Sun)
- Heat
- Birth Control
- Pregnancy
- Other Hormone Treatments
What is Melasma?
- Symmetric, blotchy, hyperpigmented patches
- Usually located in these areas:
- Bridge of Nose
- Cheeks
- Chin
- Upper Arms
- Forehead
- Neck
- Upper Lip
The best way to prevent melasma from occurring is through the use of sunblock. We all know we need to use sunblock but when we don’t use sunblock our skin will suffer, not only from melasma but also with wrinkles and spot development.
How do you know if you have melasma?
At Forever Slender MedSpa, our trained medical staff perform skin analysis using the 7th Generation Visia Skin Analysis tool. This tremendous evaluation technique determines the causes of skin problems, both what you can see and problems which are not yet visible but are developing below the skin surface.
You will be able to see the problems yourself so you know what we are treating and why we recommend treatment. Our patients have the advantage of treatment transparency other places simply cannot offer.
